LISA N. DAVIS, J.D.
Lisa N. Davis has been practicing law in Los Angeles, California for more than two decades. She graduated with honors from Duke University, and with honors from Northwestern University School of Law. Ms. Davis spent the first half of her law career working for two large law firms, Sheppard Mullin Richter and Hampton, LLP, and Seyfarth Shaw, LLP. She gained substantial experience as a litigator and then moved in-house to SCAN Health Plan where she served as Vice President, Associate General Counsel for over a decade. In this position, she gained expertise in multiple areas of the law, and learned first-hand about the critical need for estate planning. Ms. Davis furthered her learning in this area by taking law courses and working with mentors in the area of wills, trusts, and estates. When she felt ready to go out on her own, she opened up her own law firm and now specializes in estate planning.

One of the reasons that Ms. Davis became so interested in timely estate planning is a very personal one. In 2005, Ms. Davis’s father unexpectedly passed away without a comprehensive estate plan. During the next two and a half years, Ms. Davis served as the executor of her father’s estate. She learned what it was like to go through the probate process and how to work closely with opposing counsel to get to a resolution. In addition to experiencing the emotional and financial costs of probate, she learned about the steps her father could have taken to avoid some of the pitfalls that led to the protracted probate process after his passing. She learned that by putting some simple documents in place, he could have saved the family a huge amount of time, effort, and money in taxes. During and after going through the exhausting process of probate, she read everything she could about this area of the law. Her goal was to someday open her own practice in wills, trusts, and estates to help individuals and families avoid the pitfalls she had encountered.

Now that Ms. Davis has established her own practice, she enjoys assisting people to plan ahead, and to put in place the documents they need to protect their loved ones and their estates. She also enjoys helping people to brainstorm about how to create the best plan given their own unique family and financial situations. With an extensive background in health care, Ms. Davis also ensures that people consider and put in writing their wishes in the event of incapacity. Finally, as the mother of a seven-year-old daughter, Ms. Davis realizes the importance of selecting guardians and financial security for minor children and enjoys counseling her clients on how to think through those decisions.
